Welcome to Duisburg Lower Rhine Logistics Initiative! Bolster your strengths! Business, science ans politics have come together in Duisburg to form the Duisburg Lower Rhine Logistics Initiative. Each partner combines specific specialist know-how which is merged in the Logistics Initiative. Close cooperation between science and business ensure the practical application of solutions developed, thusimproving the standing of Duisburg and the Lower Rhine region as a logistics location. In the national and international specialist world of logistics the region´s core competence has been know for a long time. For centuries the region has been a trading and trans-shipment point. Historically, due to its position on the Rhine and its interface function between the Netherlands, the Rhine and the Ruhr, many transportation and logistics companies have established themselves here. Transportation ans logistics companies have grown here with their tasks and the support of local research facilities located here to become logistics operations, which today provide services along the entire value creation chain. Over 2,600 transportation and logistics companies have a presence in the Duisburg and Lower Rhine region, not to mention the logistics know-how of producer companies. Would you have thought that not one car would roll off the production line in Germany if the regions´s logistics companies stopped working? Just ask who did the engraving on your fountain pen or who you get your money back from if the mail order shirt you ordered and paid for was delivered in the wrong size - the answer very frequently is: from a logistics service provider from the Duisburg and Lower Rhine region. Some 56 million tons are handled across the quayside in the logistic region´s inland port. That is a good 3 million tons more than Bremen marine port handled in 2004. Did you know that the region is a Mecca for congestion research and that even in the Saudi pilgrim city technologies developed here are used to simulate streams of people and traffic? All the railway points in North Rhine Westphalia are remotely controlled from Duisburg. If the Deutsche Bundesbahn Duisburg Centre didn´t exist, not one train in the region would move. This list could be continued. Duisburg Lower Rhine Logistics Initiative has made it its mission to further expand the region´s strengths and to hone the logistic region´s profile. To this end business, science and politics have come together. On this website you will find information on all aspects of the logistics location, the Initiative, events and contacts. The Duisburg Lower Rhine Logistics Initiative Information Flyer can be found here.
